Hexanedioic Acid

CAS No.124-04-9

Hexanedioic Acid   is one of the most important industrial dicarboxylic acids. It appears as a white crystalline powder with a low hygroscopic profile. Adipic Acid is primarily supplied as Polymer/Industrial Grade and Food/Pharma Grade (E355), acting as a critical building block for Nylon 66, Polyurethane (PU) elastomers, cold-resistant plasticizers, and food acidity regulators.

The applications of adipic acid in the industry

Nylon and engineering plastics industry

Nylon and engineering plastics industry

Adipic acid is the key raw material for making nylon 66 (PA66). It reacts with hexamethylenediamine to form nylon 66 salt, which is then polymerized into nylon 66 resin. Nylon 66 is widely used in industrial fibers and engineering plastics, with end applications in car manufacturing, electronics, and more. Adipic acid is the main raw material for both nylon 66 fiber and engineering plastics.

Polyurethane Industry

Adipic acid is an important intermediate in polyurethane materials and is used to make PU slurry, shoe sole liquids, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), polyurethane resins, and synthetic leather. The main downstream demand for adipic acid in this field covers applications like artificial leather, shoemaking, and foam plastics.

Biodegradable plastics industry

Biodegradable plastics industry

Adipic acid is one of the main raw materials for producing biodegradable plastic PBAT. As an eco-friendly basic chemical, it has good prospects in the field of biodegradable plastics.

Food and Beverage Industry

Adipic acid can be used as an acidifier in food and drinks. It has a mild and lasting sour taste, and its pH changes little across a wide concentration range. It's suitable for solid drinks, jellies, and jelly powders, and is especially good for dry foods because it doesn’t clump.

Adipic acid is also used to make ester-based plasticizers, high-grade lubricants, pharmaceutical intermediates, flavor and fragrance controllers, coatings, insecticides, adhesives, fluxes, textile treatments, plastic foaming agents, and new single-crystal materials. It can be polycondensed with diols to produce polyester polyols and is also an important raw material for making synthetic resins.
